“Citizen Tom Paine” staged reading

March 31 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Three performers read lively excerpts from Howard Fast’s bestselling historical novel, “Citizen Tom Paine.” Set in Philadelphia in the months leading up to July 4, 1776, the novel paints a vivid picture of the man and the place that gave birth to “Common Sense.” Paine’s stirring pamphlet “went viral” in coffeehouses and taverns, inspired George Washington’s despondent army, and foreshadowed the Declaration of Independence. The 35-minute reading is followed by a 15-minute Q & A reflecting on the continued impact of “Common Sense” today.
