SUMMARY:Shake Hands with History This 602 Day
DESCRIPTION:Join us on June 2 (602 Day) from 10 am to 2 pm for a one-of-a-kind opportunity to meet and talk with veterans from World War II\, Vietnam\, the Cold War\, and the War on Terror. \nMeet the veterans behind the stories and have real conversations. Ask questions about their service\, their experiences\, and their lives beyond the uniform. Plus\, for one day only\, pick up past editions of Since You Asked® for just $6.02 each! \nBooks are for sale throughout the day\, and a dozen veterans will be here between 10 am and 2pm to answer questions and share their experiences. Here’s one you won’t want to miss: \nGene Metcalfe (World War II Veteran)\nGene Metcalfe’s World War II experience took him from the front lines of Operation Market Garden to an interrogation by Heinrich Himmler inside Charlemagne’s castle. After being liberated from a German POW camp by Patton’s forces\, Gene set out to see Paris before returning to his platoon\, hotwiring a car and bribing his way across bridges with souvenirs he had collected along the way. Years later\, he returned to that same castle not as a prisoner\, but as a guest\, sitting down for a five star meal in the place where he was once held captive. \nCome connect with history\, right here in our community.

For two and a half centuries\, the diverse landscapes of America have provided sanctuary for hundreds of bird species that have shaped our cultural and natural heritage. This program is perfect for newly interested birders who want to learn how to identify the most common local birds with the help of apps and other resources. It is recommended you download and register for Merlin\, the free birding ID app developed by Cornell\, before coming to the park as wi-fi is spotty.
