Geology Tour at Oracle State Park
February 21 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Limited space, by reservation only!
Did you know that Oracle State Park was once covered by warm, shallow seas? Are you familiar with the numerous faults that uncovered rocks once buried more than 5 miles beneath the surface? The park offers visitors the opportunity to experience the unique geology of the Santa Catalina Mountains area. First, you’ll participate in an interactive discussion of major geologic events led by park volunteer Maribeth Greenslade. Then you’ll join Maribeth on a 1¼ mile guided hike exploring the landforms and dynamic geology of the surrounding area. You’ll have many opportunities to ask questions and handle real rocks in the field!
Post tour packets are available for all participants that provide maps and a “Geology of Featured Trails at the Park” pamphlet with photos.
No prior geology experience is needed. Meet at Oracle State Park’s Group Use Area Parking Lot. The program will last about an hour and a half.
Reserve your spot here (search for Oracle State Park under places). You may also reserve a spot by calling the park at (520) 896-2425.
